In Danomics Petrophysics users are guided through a workflow that walks them through a number of modules. These modules are located via a dropdown menu at the top center of the window. The modules are listed in the order in which a user should ideally proceed through a project. However, this order is not strictly enforced and the user can start at any module and can seamlessly move both forward and back through the modules. This help article will focus on the Volumetrics module so you can calculate oil and gas in place (OOIP and OGIP)

Volumetrics Module

Danomics petrophysics software has a volumetrics module for estimating oil and gas in place.

To access the Volumetrics module use the module selector dropdown menu located in the top middle area of the page and select “Volumetrics Plot”.

This module is intended to allow the user to calculate OOIP (Original Oil in Place) and OGIP (Original Gas in Place) on a per unit area basis.

The user should first set if the zone is oil or gas, if they want to do the analysis using the Net Reservoir or Net Pay as thickness, and if they want to use the total or effective porosity.

If a formation is flagged as oil, the user will then enter Area, Bo, and GOR. If the formation is flagged as gas, the user will then enter Area, Bg, and Liquids Yield.

Oil in Place (OOIP)

7758*$area*@thickness*@porosity*(1-@sw)/$Bo

where 7758 is the conversion from acre-ft to barrels, thickness is either the net reservoir or net pay flag, and porosity is either the effective or total porosity. When Oil is the selected phase, associated gas is determined via the gas-oil ratio.

Gas in Place (OGIP)

43560*$area*@thickness*@porosity*(1-@sw)/$Bg

where 43560 is the conversion from acre-feet to scf, thickness is either the net reservoir or net pay flag, and porosity is either the effective or total porosity. When Gas is the selected phase, associated liquids are determined via the liquids yield.
