Danomics + Claude: Making a new CPI

Your Claude (LLM) account can connect to your Danomics account. This is outlined in this article on how to set up a Danomics Connect for Claude. You will need to have completed this setup (or a similar one) to follow along with the tutorial below.

In this tutorial we will be using Claude to make a CPI file from data already uploaded into Danomics. The goal of this tutorial isn't to get Claude to do something we can't already do ourselves - that will come later - but instead to get it to do the first step in a series of actions we'll prompt it to do.

Getting Started

To get started, you'll need to load some data. I used the sample data in the welcome tutorial. You an follow the tutorial here: Welcome Project.

Once you have the data loaded you'll be ready to begin. In the tutorial vido I have Danomics open in one tab and Claude's web chat in another (and am using Opus 4.8).

Our First Prompt

I loaded the data into a folder named PRB and I have asked Claude:

In my Danomics staging account there is a folder there named PRB that has headers, tops, and logs. Can you make me a CPI file?

Claude will ask you for a few permissions and then, then find the folder and files insdide it. If it finds other folders, it may ask you which one you are specifically referring to. Once done it will report back something like:

Done. Your new PRB.cpi is created in the root /PRB folder, bound to that folder's three databases:
  • Headers → PRB.wdb
  • Logs → PRB.ldb
  • Tops → PRB.tops
It's otherwise blank — no zone params, GR endpoints, or petrophysical methods set — so it'll open ready for you to build up the interpretation from scratch. The only extra I included is a default well-list filter (has_logs = true, verticals) so the well list populates with logged wells right away rather than showing an empty panel; say the word if you'd rather I strip that out.

Summary

That's it for this first step. Yes, this was a simple operation we could have done quicker ourselves. However, we will build upon this as there is no reason your prompt can't ask Claude to do everything in this series in one go.
